Building accessibility

Museum of Technology and Transport - Zajezdnia Sztuki in Szczecin, ul. Niemierzyńska 18A, 71-441 Szczecin.

Environment

The Museum of Technology and Transport - Zajezdnia Sztuki in Szczecin is located within the boundaries of the administrative district Niebuszowo-Bolinko in the Śródmieście district. The main gate leads into the Museum courtyard and is accessible from Niemierzyńska Street. The gate is open during the Museum's opening hours. It is also the entrance gate for vehicles. The area is paved with cobblestones. In some places there are tram rails. On the left side from the entrance is a small security building. There are 3 low stairs leading up to the building. The porters walk out in front of the building. As a result, crossing the obstacle is not necessary.

Car park

The courtyard serves as a car park for visitors and staff. There are currently no parking spaces designated for people with disabilities only. The nearest parking space designated for people with disabilities is on ul. Żupański, 100 m from the museum's entrance gate.

Entrance to the building

There are two entrances to the building. The main entrance (for visitors) and the rear entrance (for staff and visitors).

  • Main entrance

The entrance (for visitors) is located in the glass part of the building, on the right side as viewed from the entrance gate. The glass door is opened manually and is 110 cm wide, with a total width of 220 cm when the second leaf is opened. There is a 2 cm high strip in the threshold of the door.

Cash register and cloakroom

The cash register is located opposite the entrance door. The cash register is marked by a neon sign with the name of the institution. The function of the cloakroom is provided by self-service lockers. When viewed from the entrance door, the lockers are located to the left behind the cash register (opposite the entrance to the toilets) and at the back of the cash register. 

Toilets

Toilets in the ticket hall (non-ticket area) - the toilets are located on the left when viewed from the entrance door (opposite the cloakroom) in a glazed corridor accessed by a 90 cm wide door from the ticket hall. The glazed corridor is: 110 cm at its narrowest point and 150 cm at its widest point. A toilet for people with disabilities is available (door width: 90 cm).

Toilets in the exhibition space (ticket area) - on the right after passing through the ticket barriers. A toilet for people with disabilities is available (door width: 90 cm) and room with baby changing table.

Lift and stairs

The lift and stairs are located to the right of the museum entrance. The lift has two entrances: the first at the door to the Motoexperimentarium, which is accessed by four stairs (which have handrails). People with disabilities can use the lift from level 0. The entrance to the lift from level 0 is behind the stairs. The lift is accessible for people with disabilities. Lift access is possible to: the level leading to the Motoeksperymentarium, floor 1, floor 2 and floor -1 (access only for authorised staff).

Exhibitions

The entrance to the exhibition rooms is on the left as viewed from the main entrance. There are ticket barriers in front of the entrance to the exhibitions. 

Large exhibition hall

It is located opposite the exhibition showcases, i.e. after passing the ticket barriers, turn left.  The concrete surface with glazed inspection channels and tram rails in the hall means that people with disabilities may need to be supported by another person. Motorbikes and descriptions suspended at different heights can be an obstacle.

Small exhibition halls

are located opposite the ticket barriers. Each small exhibition hall includes a door to the large exhibition hall.

Exhibition hall in the basement

It is open only if a temporary exhibition is located there. The door from the main hall, 123 cm wide, leads to the basement. The door is fitted with a handle and is opened manually. During exhibitions in the basement, the door is permanently open. Behind the door there is a staircase with handrail. A wheelchair-accessible platform is available for visitors in wheelchairs. The platform is operated by a museum employee.

Motoexperimentarium

The Motoexperimentarium is located on the right side as viewed from the entrance. There are four stairs leading up to the Motoexperimentarium from the ticket hall level. This level can also be accessed by lift. In front of the entrance to the interactive room there are ticket barriers. 

Education rooms

The education rooms "Stoewer" and "Junak" are located on the 1st floor. It is possible to enter by lift or to take the stairs on the right as viewed from the entrance.  On the same floor there is a toilet for people with disabilities, a men's toilet, a women's toilet and a service passage to the staircase that leads to the other floors.

Conference room

The conference room is located on the 2nd floor. It is possible to enter by lift or to take the stairs on the right as viewed from the entrance.  On the same floor, there is a toilet for people with disabilities, a men's toilet, a women's toilet, a reading room and a service passage to a staircase that leads to other floors.

Café

The café is located on the left side from the entrance. The café is accessed by a staircase located to the right in front of the exhibition ticket barriers. Access is possible with a wheelchair-accessible platform. The platform is operated by a museum employee during exhibition opening hours.

Offices of the Education and Communication Department

The offices of the Education Department are located on the 3rd floor.  . The staircase and lift to reach the 2nd floor at most are on the right as viewed from the front door. The 3rd floor is reached by a service passage using a staircase, no lift access possible. If it is not possible to reach this level, it is possible to serve the visitor conveniently in another room.

Entrance to the building

  • Rear entrance

The entrance to the offices is located at the rear of the building. A path along the wall on the left side of the building leads to the entrance. It is possible to access by car. The surface is paved with cobblestones with no architectural barriers. The entrance is marked by a sign with the office hours. Behind the glass entrance door is: a vestibule and another glass door leading to the staircase. Each of the glass doors is the same size - 93 cm wide, with 138 cm when the second leaf is opened. The doors are fitted with handles and are opened manually.

The offices of the departments: Administration, Technology, HR, Accounting and the Secretariat and Management

The offices are located at the rear of the building.  There is a board on the ground floor staircase indicating the location and numbers of the rooms assigned to specific departments. The door next to the board is the service passage to the exhibition room and may not be used by unauthorised persons.

On the ground floor on the right side is the entrance to the corridor with the rooms of the departments: Administration and Technology. A staircase with a landing leads to the first level. There is no lift in this part of the building. A staircase with handrails on both sides leads to the landing, with a handrail on one side behind the landing. On the first floor there is a mezzanine with entrances to the offices of the departments: HR, Accounting, Administration and the Secretariat and Management.

If it is not possible to reach this level, it is possible to serve the visitor conveniently in another room. There is no lift or toilet for people with disabilities in this part of the building.

Description of adaptations

The following are not available in the building: induction loops, Braille signage, contrast signage or enlarged print. There is no sign language interpreter available on site or online at the Museum premises.
